February 24-26, 2023
One for Royal Canberrans, this.
The opening round of Super Rugby ’23 will see a cracking derby fixture as old foes ACT Brumbies and NSW Waratahs do battle at Allianz Stadium, the gleaming new coliseum at Moore Park. And there will be a hot time Friday night in Sin City.
In the day time, meanwhile, you can play golf – at New South Wales, at Elanora, at Mt Broughton.
And, in the way of these things, you can and drink quite nicely, too.
To wit…

itinerary
Friday 24 February
From Canberra it’s a nigh-on three-hour trip, door-to-door, from Royal Canberra to New South Wales GC. Our tip: leave at 06:00, enjoy breakfast at Sutton Forest, before heading straight to La Perouse. You’ll be there by 10:30am latest in time for warm-up ahead of an 11:15am tee-time.
After your round enjoy a drink before heading to your Coogee accommodation where you’ll check-in, clean up and enjoy a beer in the sports bar of the Coogee Bay Hotel. Local transport can easily whisk you to nearby Allianz Stadium ahead of an 8pm kick-off.

Saturday 25 February
After a swim and breakfast it’s across a couple of Bridges and up the Wakehurst Parkway to fabulous Elanora CC where you can check-in and drop your bag ahead of midday tee-time in the Saturday Members competition.
Dinner suggestion: The Collaroy

Sunday 26 February
Early risers can head to nearby Narrabeen for a dip before before breakfast and a 9am check out ahead of a 9:30am departure. You’ll then slide two hours door-to-door ahead of a 12:30 tee-time at Mt. Broughton.
After the round it’s just 90 minutes back to Canberra. That said, a Competition suggestion would be: worst round has to drive while passengers enjoy quiet roadies. A stop at the rustic Bushranger Hotel at Collector could also feature.

tariff
TBA depending on Single / twin-share, required rugby ticket (be it General Admission or a level of hospitality) and room rates at Coogee and Elanora. But for three rounds golf (including two reciprocal), two nights Single accommodation, breakfast, and an evening of Rugby Hospitality … maybe $900? Or approx $500 for twin-share, General Admission. Get in touch and we can do the sums.
